We use a lot of tissues in our house (we call them Kleenex no matter the brand). I have been trying to recycle them with our cardboard, but I have recently found other uses for them. Below are some of the favorite ways our family reuse Kleenex boxes.
- A Grocery Bag Dispenser
I do not have too many plastic grocery bags these days since I have been reusing my cloth grocery bags. However, there are those trips where I forget my bags or even run out of them. I had a hanging bag my Granny made me before I got married in which to store them, but the handle broke and the elastic came out. I never did repair it, so I needed a new way to store my plastic grocery bags. A Kleenex box makes the perfect dispenser.
- Corralling Miscellaneous Items
I keep an empty kleenex box on top of the dryer as well as in the kitchen and bedroom to place miscellaneous items which may be dropped or found in pockets.
- Toy Bin
We have all sorts of small toys from legos, to army men, to cars. My children LOVE keeping their toys in a kleenex box! They work great! Also, if the child is artistic he or she can decorate the box with colored paper unless the design on the box already suits them!
- Puzzles and Games
I have found we often wear out the boxes puzzles and games come in. A kleenex box is a great way to store the pieces and still be able to stack them neatly on your shelf!
- Arts and Crafts
It seems we are always needing some type of cardboard for some of our crafts. Kleenex boxes work great! Especially if we want the cardboard to be colorful! You can cut the box to the size or shape you need!
- Musical Instrument
A favorite for my children is a homemade guitar! Just wrap a few rubber bands around the center and strum away!
- To Hold Drawings
If you need to have a draw for a contest or to choose an activity to do for a fun free day, use the kleenex box to put the numbers or names in and draw from.
- Use as a Mini Trash Can
Place on a desk or table to use for a mini trash can! I love to have one on my sewing table for all the loose threads and small scraps of fabric which I cannot reuse for anything else! They also work great in cars for trash cans or other smaller places.
Give an empty box to a child and see where their imagination takes them! My children have used them for doll beds, boats, forts to hide their army men, and much more! Let them be creative! No worries of tearing anything up either!
A kleenex box is biodegradable and works great if you want to start some seeds. Realize you will need something under it as the water will leak through. Start your seeds in the box, then transplant!
I know there are lots of other uses for empty kleenex boxes. I would love to hear how you use them! Be creative! If you do not reuse them, please try to recycle!
