Summer is my time to read since I am not reading as much to the children for school. We still read EVERY day, but it does not seem to be as much. Below is a list of the books I am planning to read this summer for pure enjoyment. I hope to learn a thing or two as well!
- LIVE Beyond Organic by Jordan Rubin
This book was given to me by my mother-in-law. I have read Jordan’s book The Maker’s Diet and I am excited to read this book as well. I do not always agree with everything Jordan Rubin says, but the main idea of raising and eating your own food is definitely something we agree on! Jordan Rubin has a website and sales the Garden of Life products. I do like his products, but I cannot afford them unless I find them on clearance and have a coupon! You can check out his website Extraordinary Health. He has since sold Garden of Life, but is still involved in it if I understand correctly. Also, there are many many websites out there of people who are selling his products. I am not sure if it is a multi-level marketing program or not. Research it for yourself. I am in no way promoting his products, but I do like to read what others who like to eat Organic have to say!
I actually received this book for free from Voice of the Martyrs. I think it is still available too. You can check out the link to fill in your information.
- Her Husband is Known in the Gates: Helping Your Husband Succeed by Bernadine Bigner Cantrell
My mother-in-law gave me this book. It was published in 1995. She gave it to me almost two years ago. I began reading it once, but never finished. I just started it again this morning. I am excited about reading it. You can see Bernadine’s website and blog for more information.
- Storey’s Guide to Raising Rabbits, 4th Edition by Bob Bennett
We are going to try to begin raising rabbits for meat soon. Tim is going to build hutches for them, but he has not been off work long enough to do it. Hopefully, this book will help us raise our rabbits properly. I raised rabbits when I was in high school, but there were certainly not for meat. It should be an interesting experience!
- Grow Your Own Drugs: Easy Recipes for Natural Remedies and Beauty Fixes by James Wong
This book was a great find at McKay’s Used books and CDs. I love getting more information about growing my own herbs and natural remedies! I am excited about reading this book in its entirety as I have already read parts of it when using it as a reference!

For the children, we are reading the twelve books which I purchased from Vision Forum World Changers Series. We have already read two books through as a family. We are reading these during the day. In the evening we have been reading the Hardy Boys series. However, we are going read another book called Escape from Warsaw. It sounds very interesting and is set during WWII.
