Keeping records does not have to be complex. In fact, in some states and with some umbrella schools, you can get by with just keeping attendance for the lower grades! A simple spread sheet created on your computer should be easy enough. Be sure to check out your state’s requirements as well as your umbrella schools requirements. For my umbrella school, I have to send grades in once per semester and they are to be letter grades such as A, B, C, D, F. The children must attend a total of 180 days during a calendar year (August 1-July 31). My children keep folders with their work for the semester. Their grades come from here. I keep attendance using my planner and calendar as to what days we actually “had school.” I was more thorough at one time, but I realized I no longer have to be at this level of school. However, I will be more thorough during the high school grades. Other ways to keep attendance are attendance charts with stars or stickers for each day they are there. You can also keep a grade and attendance book. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be!
Be sure to check out my post later today with lots of great freebies for homeschool planning and organization!
