Worth Reading: Know the Ingredients in Your Personal Care Products

Environemental Working Group just posted an article on Knowing the Ingredients in Your Personal Care Products. In this article, they list ingredients to avoid in your shampoos and other products! Toxic chemicals are all around us. We are greatly trying to eliminate all the "bad" stuff in our household! It is a process which we may not ever complete successfully, but we can try! If any of you have any tips on how to get rid of ALL the plastics in your home, let me know! Even the keyboard on which I type is made of plastics! Not sure if that will ever be possible in this day! However, we can stop using everyday products such as shampoo, deodorant, soap, etc. which may have harmful ingredients. It is difficult to afford these natural products ALL the time as well. However, the more they are purchased, the more likely their pricing will go down. Think of when organic foods first hit the grocery store and how expensive they were then. Even though they are still expensive, organic foods are still less than they were ten years ago!

Some ingredients to avoid:

  • Words ending in "paraben"
  • DMDM hydantoin
  • Imidazolidinyl urea
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone
  • Methylisothiazolinone
  • Triclosan
  • Triclocarban
  • Triethanolamine (or "TEA")
