Menu Update

The children have designed the menu for the week.

Yesterday we had cereal and milk for breakfast, popcorn, celery, and carrots for lunch, and spaghetti for supper. Today we had cereal and milk for breakfast, apples and peanut butter for lunch, and stir-fry meat and veggies with rice for supper. My parents are coming tomorrow to stay the entire weekend. We just found out this information today. The menu will be very different from what we normally eat. While my parents say they are not picky eaters, they truly are! They will not eat rice or anything made with rice! my dad basically lives on Bologna sandwiches, Little Debbie Snack Cakes, bacon, eggs, meat, and taters. He will not eat anything “weird” which is what he calls most of the foods I fix! So, I am not sure what the children will come up with, but I told them they could continue the meals as planned! They can always go out to eat or eat at my brother’s house if they do not like what we are serving!

Kashless Rewards Ending (for Now)

Here is the email I received over the weekend regarding the Kashless Rewards Program.

“At Kashless.org, we try to make it easy to do the right thing: Reuse to extend our natural resources as far as possible. We have a great web site that makes Reuse super easy and safe. In addition to making better software for Reuse, we have experimented with ways to increase the value to you to Reuse instead of throw away or leave something unused. The web site has a great user reputation system, tracks the pounds of stuff you divert from the landfill, and calculates carbon offsets generated by your Reuse.
In November of last year Kashless.org launched the Kashless Rewards program in partnership with Recyclebankto bring you even more value for your Reuse activities. By participating in the Kashless.org Reuse community members have been able to earn reward points which can be redeemed for hundreds of valuable items from companies that support going green. During the last six months of the Kashless Rewards program:
- Kashless.org has issued over 3 million Reward points
- Over 40,000 new members have joined the Kashless.org Reuse community
- Over 200,000 items have been listed by our Kashless.org members for Reuse (in addition to the over 1,000,000 items listed through partner web sites – a 20% increase in reuse listings nationwide!).
- Over 500,000 pounds of reusable items are not in the landfills.
By any measurement, the Kashless Rewards program has significantly increased interest in and utilization of Reuse.
As a not for profit, Kashless.org is always in search of the best ways to promote our Reuse mission with the limited resources available. As of today, our resources to support the free Rewards benefits have expired and we are closing down the Rewards program (for now). While Kashless Rewards has come to an end, members can still use Kashless.org stay green and to give and get free stuff. Members who have earned Rewards points can access their balances over at RecycleBank at anytime. Kashless.org will continue to explore ways to increase value to our members and encourage a dynamic Reuse community world-wide.
Thanks for being a member and keep on reusing!

Blog/Website of the Week “The Fresh Pharmacy”

There is a Pharmacy in the Knoxville Area which provides herbal and nutritional supplements. They also provide a wide range of compounded drugs. They will counsel with all their patients to get them the best medications, herbals, and vitamins for their needs.

The name of the Pharmacy is The Fresh Pharmacy. They are located on Highway 321 in Lenoir City, TN. They are in the East Tennessee Discount Drugs Building which is across the street from CVS and Taco Bell.

Below is a direct quote from their website.

“At Fresh Pharmacy we provide a wide range of compounded drugs as well as herbal and nutritional supplements. It is our mission to educate people about their healthcare and how they can take action to live longer and healthier lives. Our pharmacists are always available to counsel on all your medications, herbals and vitamins. A great benefit of being a patient with Fresh Pharmacy is the detailed patient care you receive.

A Fresh Pharmacy patient will fully understand their drug and nutritional therapy, as well as have a clear plan of their goals. We focus our time and efforts on each patient individually so they can achieve their health outcomes. We also provide educational seminars concerning drug therapy, nutrient depletion, and hormone replacement across the United States! Our pharmacists and staff receive continual training in advanced compounding techniques and stay up-to date on current healthcare information. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.”

Menu from the Farm

As an experiment for school, the children are planning the menu for this week. They are going to use only what we have on hand! Here is what we have had today.

Breakfast: Cereal and Milk, grapes, strawberries

Lunch: Peanut Butter and Jelly Tacos, baby carrots, celery, a piece of candy from their Easter stash

For supper, they want to make homemade pizzas. The pizzas will have pepperoni, pineapple, onions, peppers, and cheese on them.

I will try to post what we eat each day this week. It should be interesting!

    height=179

I was in FFA all of high school and college. FFA stands for Future Farmers of America. However, with the diversity of Agriculture, it is not just “plows and cows” anymore! Each year my local FFA Chapter and Greenhouse Management class had a plant sale! Most high schools who have FFA programs have plant sales! I encourage you to discover if your local high school or even middle school participates in these sales! Not only do you get high quality plants at an affordable price, but you are supporting the school and the children in your community!

At the high school I attended, the students did all the work. We started the plants from seed and cared for them until they were sold! It was a great experience for me and one of my favorite parts of high school! I learned many things such as team work and self confidence! I also learned communication skills, bookkeeping, and many other skills to help with my future!

Below is a list of a few schools in the Knoxville area which have plant sales. I know there are more!

    Lenoir City High School

    Anderson County High School

    Halls High School

    South Doyle High School

    Heritage High School

    William Blount High School

Cutting the Bag Habit at Earth Fare!

Beginning April 22, 2010, Earth Fare will no longer be using plastic bags. They have been using less for some time now and have provided boxes in the front of the store for your groceries. Last year around this time, I got several FREE reusable shopping bags from various stores in honor of Earth Day. On Earth Day, the first 200 shoppers per store at Earth Fare will receive a free reusable grocery bag. Kroger also has a design your own bag special where you can design a bag and they will credit your card with a free reusuable grocery bag. Pay attention to other stores as I am sure they will be having specials for bags around this time!

Many stores are trying to go greener. Last year at this time, I was told by several different stores (Wal-Mart, Kroger, CVS, etc.) they would soon go to not using bags. Aldi and Sams have been practicing no bags for a while. In my personal opinion, I think it is great to cut down on plastic bag useage. However, I do like to have paper bags occasionally for school projects and other reuses. I do have several reusable grocery bags now, the problem is remembering to take them to the store, or if I get them there, I forget to take them out of the car! :(

Wednesday Words of Wisdom “Take Time with Your Children”

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to listen to a speaker who has lost a child. Her child passed away in a tragic accident at the age of 12 just a few years ago. Her world before he passed away was very rushed. Her children played sports which consumed most of their life. Only a few months before the son passed away, she and her family (one daughter, her son, and her husband) began serving together as a family on the mission field. They decided to begin serving God more and playing sports as along as it did not interfere with their church activities. However, their life was still hurry rush and go and they were not focused on the important things in life such as being together. She was not a bad parent, but typical in our modern world. She said if she had it to do over things would definitely be different and have been different since her son passed away.

Even though our family does attempt to put God first, we often fail. Even though we try to make time as a family, we often fail in that area as well! I have to often check-in and make sure my priorities are in order. I love to blog, but lately, my family has needed me and blogging has been on the back burner! I have no regrets for putting it on the back burner! There are other areas where I need to just let go as well. There are some things which just do not matter! Our children are Gifts from God on loan to us until HE decides to call them home! No, we should not give in to their desires, but there are times when it is okay to bend a little to do things special just for them! I am so very guilty of putting housework and garden work before my children. I am with them 24 hours a day seven days a week, but there are days when I feel I have not spent any time with them at all! I know I will never be perfect, but I will keep trying. I love all six of my children and the seventh one who has not been born! I could not imagine what I would do without any of them! I was just thinking this weekend, “What if I would have stopped having children when I got my boy and girl! Think of all the blessings I would have missed!” My sixth born is just as much of a blessing as my first born and all the children in between. I believe God will use all of them to HIS glory!

My challenge to you and to me is to tell your children you love them EVERY day SEVERAL times a day! Let them know you are proud of them! Do something special with them on a regular basis! It does not even have to cost money! Children are very easy to please! Read a book, make some cookies or a dessert! Write a letter to someone. Rake a yard together. Learn something new together! The possibilities are endless! Love your babies! God will reward you for your loyalty to your family and to HIM!

Here is some information about a Used Curriculum Sale at Cove Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. Please contact Beth Blanchard if you have any questions. Her email is below! This is a direct quote from TN Kids Club2.

Annual Curriculum Sale at The Cove

Posted by: "Beth Blanchard" dlbeth@yahoo.com dlbeth
    Thu Feb 25, 2010 12:39 pm (PST)

    Hello Everyone!
It is time to reserve your table, under the Gazebo, for The Annual TennKidsClub Cove Park Used Curriculum Sale on Friday, May 14,
from 11a.m. to 2p.m. This is a really fun annual event that draws in
    hundreds of home schoolers.
The curriculum sale takes place rain or shine, so
reserve your table under the Gazebo! There are 10 large tables with benches and
you can share them; the cost is $5.00 per table. This money goes toward the
    rental cost of the Gazebo.
    Email your reservations to me at dlbeth@yahoo.com;
include your name, address and phone
number. Once I have your reservation request, I will email you my address so
that you can send in your $5.00. I will send you a confirmation email when I
have received your payment. Please remember these tables are on a first-come,
    first-served basis.
There is space on the lawn for
those wanting to bring their own table or blanket. There is no cost for setting
up on the lawn, but I do ask that you email me to let me know you will be doing
so. As per park regulations, you may set up a tarp or tent for shade/rain
protection, just so long as it is no larger than 10x10.
On the day of the event, sellers can begin setting
up at 10:30 a.m. (absolutely no earlier) after they have signed in with me. Everything must be cleaned up
    and gone by 3:00
    p.m. as
per our agreement with the park service department. Sellers are responsible for
setting up and pricing their items, manning their area, collecting their own money
    and cleaning up.
    Bring
your picnic lunch and join us.
About The Cove and the Gazebo:
The Gazebo sits near the water and there are rest rooms, picnic tables, a playground, sand
volleyball courts, a biking/walking/skating trail, fishing areas and a beach
with swimming available. River Sports also offers canoe/kayak rentals in
    season.
Please be aware of the following Park Rules and remind your
children of these rules so that everyone can have a great time:
You are responsible for your children at all times while at
The Cove. FEEDING OF THE WILDLIFE is NOT permitted, so leave the
extra bread crumbs at home. Please do not allow your children or pets to chase
the ducks or geese at the park. If you bring a pet, please be sure it is on a
leash and you clean up after it. Pets are not allowed in the fenced swimming
area, so keep that in mind. Also, the rocks at the shore need to stay on the
shore; there are signs posted asking that the rocks not be disturbed or
removed. The park service does patrol the area and I don't want anyone to be
asked to leave the park for any reason.
    Directions to the Cove Park:
