Friday Freebies from the Farm!

This morning I picked a bushel of green beans. There will probably only be one more picking from these beans. I have canned 35 quarts so far, and we have had fresh green beans almost every night as well. We only planted one 75 foot row this year. We usually plant at least 4-5 rows. I will typically can at least 150 quarts of green beans each year for us to keep. I always give fresh and canned green beans away as well. We still have several left from last year. I was not planning to can any beans this year, but God truly blessed our bean row!

I also dug up some taters this morning. They are almost ready to completely dig up! I just dug under the plants where the tops are completely brown.

In addition to beans and taters, I also picked onions, shallots, and garlic. This year is the first year I have grown garlic and shallots. I chopped some shallots up last night and put them in a salad! Delicious!

Tonight we are also having Fried Green Tomatoes! Our tomatoes are just starting to turn red. I really do not like tomatoes much except for fried green ones! I grow the tomatoes mainly to make sauces and stewed tomatoes. Tomatoes and okra are good as well. We did not plant any okra this year, but may yet!

We are also picking blackberries and the last of the black raspberries were picked the other day! There still were not enough raspberries to make any jam or to freeze or dry. The children eat them too fast!

What are you harvesting from your garden right now?
